AFR PRODUCTIONS
In 2007, AFR launched this exciting new venture and began production on two documentaries films. One of the films has recently reached the end of principal photography and is slated for theatrical release in Fall 2010.
FISCAL SPONSORSHIP GRANTS
Finding funding for any film project, no matter how commercially or artistically viable, is challenging. AFR recognizes this. In an effort to assist filmmakers raise funds for their projects and also to further our mission and tax exempt purposes, AFR invites filmmakers to apply for a fiscal sponsorship grant.
Through the fiscal sponsorship arrangement, filmmakers are able to solicit tax deductible donations for their film projects, in the name of AFR. The filmmaker retains all ownership rights, and so long as the project advances AFR’s charitable goals, AFR will tender all funds raised for the project to the filmmaker.
If you are interested in applying for an AFR fiscal sponsorship grant for your film project, please submit a written grant request to AFR, describing your film project (ie: the film’s subject matter and story structure, budget requirements, and distribution goals). Should you have any questions about the Fiscal Sponsorship Grant Program please do not hesitate to contact us.
FILMMAKER TRAINING
While in the past, AFR has assisted other organizations in organizing, staffing and publicizing filmmaker training programs, in 2008 we held our first AFR Filmmaker’s Workshop. The three-day workshop took place at UCLA and included 35 carefully-selected participants from a pool of applicants across the country. All of the participants received full scholarships to attend the workshop. Esteemed faculty included industry professionals (including directors, producers and screenwriters) and film executives from companies such as MPower Productions ( An American Carol, Bella), Legendary Pictures ( 300, The Dark Knight), Hero Pictures International (The Private Lives of Albert Einstein), and Neo Art and Logic ( Halloween: Resurrection, Hellraiser). The Workshop included sessions such as “What Not to Do in Your Screenplay” and “Telling Stories with Ideas,” and included panels on documentary filmmaking, television writing, and the business of filmmaking. A highlight of the workshop including two sessions on Story and Pitching in which participants each had the opportunity to pitch a film idea to an industry pro.
